The Wayside zip-up fleece from KAVU is kind of like a hug you can wear. It’s made from super-soft high-pile sherpa fleece that gets extra brownie points for being 100% recycled. Elastic binding at the sleeves, collar and hem keep the cold out, and there are two cosy hand pockets. But the really cool thing about the Wayside is the 6-wale cotton corduroy they’ve used to reinforce the underside of the forearms the bit they reckon you’ll spend most time resting on the bar. They’ve also utilised this same corduroy fabric to pick out the zippered chest pocket, and to line the inside of the neck. Open it up and there’s a surprise bit of KAVU-style engineering on the inside. They’ve used windproof polyester taffeta to line the front and sleeves, but switched in polyester mesh at the back for breathability. Perfect adventure-wear, and stylish to boot.

  1. Chest: Measure around the fullest part, place the tape close under the arms and make sure the tape is flat across the back.
  2. Shoulder: Measure straight from the edge of one shoulder to the other at the back.
  3. Arm Length: (A) Measure from the center back of collar to the end of shoulder. (B) Then to elbow. (C) Then down to wrist.
  4. Neck: Measure around the neck with one finger included.
  5. Waist: Measure around your waist where you wear your pants.

• Now heres an origin story for you. Back in the early nineties, fishing boat skipper Barry Barr was fed up with wearing cheap trucker caps that got snatched off his head in storms, never to be seen again. He decided to make a super-durable cap that wouldnt blow off whatever the weather, and he did it by stitching the webbing material from a Teva sandal all the way around the crown. Turned out his Strapcap was a hit, and KAVU was born.

  From humble beginnings flogging Strapcaps out of the boot of his car in Seattle, Barrys since expanded to produce a whole array of durable outdoor kit with a laid-back, van-lifer vibe. The KAVU range takes in everything from sling bags to swim shorts, and while theyre serious about producing great gear thats made to last, theyre also not afraid to have a laugh. Their prints are bold, playful, and in some cases so loud that theyll take some considerable chutzpah to carry off but thats what makes them so much fun.
