The Short & Sweet:
History of Strichtarn Camouflage:
The Strichtarn camouflage pattern, also known as “rain pattern,” was first introduced by the National People’s Army (NVA) of East Germany in 1965. This pattern, inspired by earlier German designs, was developed to provide effective concealment in various environments, especially in forested and urban areas. The vertical “rain” lines were intended to disrupt the silhouette of soldiers, enhancing their stealth. Strichtarn became a symbol of East German military identity and remained in use until the reunification of Germany in 1990.
