Issued BGS Sumpftarn Field Jacket

A BGS Sumpftarn jacket. These jackets are typically found demilled, but this one managed to escape the demilling process and has been left in original condition minus the velcro patch on the left sleeve.

The Bundesgrenzschutz (BGS), established in 1951 as West Germany’s federal border guard, introduced the Sumpftarn camouflage pattern in 1952. This pattern evolved through three main variants between 1952 and 1976, each featuring a combination of beige-gray, red-brown, and greenish-gray shapes overlaid with thin, dark green “rain” lines.

The BGS phased out Sumpftarn-patterned items by 1976, transitioning to uniforms more closely resembling standard police attire. However, specialized units like the Grenzschutzgruppe 9 (GSG 9) continued to use Sumpftarn helmet covers until around 2000.
