Cast your eye around the firepit at the annual staff camping weekend, and chances are our head buyer, Rob, will be wearing his Snow Peak down jacket. Which as far as we’re concerned is pretty much the best real-world recommendation for any piece of outdoor gear. And these coats really are something special, particularly after a 2024 upgrade. The top-quality 800 fill-power down is ridiculously warm for the weight, and it’s also been treated for water-repellency, so it’ll retain heat even when wet. What’s more, they’ve boosted the wet-weather performance by adding a waterproof polyurethane film on the inside of the recycled polyester stretch ripstop shell. Hem, hood and cuffs can all be trimmed in to lock out draughts, and the hood visor is adjustable via a belt tab. Snow Peak apparel is as much about the little things as the big stuff, and the 2L down jacket is full of considered details like a two-way front zip, brushed pocket liners and an off-set diagonal zipper to protect your chin. Among the neatest features is a versatile double-slider chest pocket with multiple compartments, including one that’s beefed up with extra insulation to stop the cold killing your phone battery.
