This extra-large 48oz (1.5 litre) wide-mouth version has a huge capacity and is easy to fill with ice cubes, perfect for high intensity activity when you need serious hydration, or for wild camps high in the hills when you might not be close to a water source. This size also comes in a trio of translucent colours, so you can quickly see how much fluid you are consuming or easily mix sports drinks and squash. • The first Nalgene bottles were born in a lab in upstate New York, back in 1949. Which already sounds like the origin story of a Marvel superhero, but actually, the truth is a little more mundane: they were just plastic pipette jars. Still, they proved to be pretty tough.
