We’ve never spent time wielding a chainsaw in a logging camp in the Pacific North West but if we did, this is what we’d wear. Make no mistake, this tin cloth insulated work vest from legendary heritage brand Filson isn’t fashionable faux-‘workwear’ it’s the real deal, designed to stand up to seriously rough treatment while keeping you warm and dry in all weathers. The shell is made from Filson’s famous ‘tin cloth’ a heavy waxed canvas that resists wind, water, thorns and abrasion. It’s easy to re-wax as necessary, and develops a fantastic patina with age. For the insulation, they’ve gone for a cosy synthetic Primaloft that’ll keep you warm even when it gets wet, and there are comfortable little touches like the wool-blend ribbed collar and flannel-lined handwarmer pockets. The tin cloth work vest is cut to give you plenty of free movement, with a dropped tail hem that should keep the rain from running down into your boxers when you bend over. Because no-one wants that.
Do not wash or dry clean brush or wipe clean with a damp rag. Rewax as needed to maintain maximum water resistance. To prevent the transfer of oils, we recommend avoiding prolonged contact between Filson oil finish goods and light-colored fabrics, especially in warm weather.
Sustainability through Longevity: Filson guarantees the quality of every item they make. It’s that simple. They believe in their products and stand by the quality of workmanship, craftsmanship and materials in each one. Every Filson product is guaranteed for life against failure or damage in its intended usage.
Over the years, Filson’s philosophy has never changed: Make sure it’s the absolute best. Clinton Filson spent a lot of time talking to his customers and refining his designs to their specifications. So it’s not surprising that the items that worked then still work today, over 120 years later. Comfort, protection and durability never go out of style.
