Sometimes it’s all about the right tool for the job which you’ll perhaps appreciate if you’ve ever tried to make a hiking daypack do double-duty as a biking pack. Specially designed for the demands of gravel and mountain bikers, the men’s Raptor 14 from Osprey is an incredibly well-thought-out bit of kit with a bike-specific winged harness and airmesh wrap hipbelt for unbeatable stability. Primarily a hydration pack, it comes with an Osprey Hydraulics LT 2.5-litre reservoir, and theyve also thrown in a handy removable tool roll. For a compact pack, the Raptor will carry a surprising amount of stuff. There’s a LidLock attachment for your helmet, while the side compression straps will also take a full-face helmet and knee pads. The sunglasses pocket is big enough to accommodate a pair of goggles, and there’s space inside for an e-bike battery and charger. For the same pack with a women’s fit, check out the Raven 14.
The Osprey story started in California in the 1970s, with one man, a sewing machine and a vision to make the worlds best outdoor packs. Today, its one of the most recognisable rucksack brands.
All of Osprey’s packs share the same twin hallmarks of fit and comfort. In fact, Osprey was an early adopter of breathable mesh, ergonomic hip-belts and packs designed specifically to fit women. Breathable back panels are still a feature of all their packs, and all except their most lightweight bags come with adjustable back-lengths for a perfect fit.
And in a world where outdoor enthusiasts are increasingly conscious of our environmental impact, many Osprey packs are made from durable recycled fabrics, while all feature PFC-free water-repellent coatings.
